Why you should optimize your website for Bing
Most of my organic search engine traffic comes from Google (95%). 5% of organic traffic comes from Bing. One one hand, I should totally forget about optimizing my website for Bing search engine. One the other hand, there’s one fat reason I should pay attention to Bing SEO factors: Facebook uses Bing search results. And as you probably know, a few people use Facebook.
The logic is very basic – people search things on Facebook. Sometimes they find what they’re looking for among Facebook pages, groups, etc. But if they don’t, users turn to Web Search results. And guess what? These are powered by Bing. Here’s a nice article that goes into a few things to keep in mind while optimizing for Bing.
UPDATE: here’s what Bing has to to say about key optimization tactics.

Very strange. I Google myself and the usual suspects arise, I bing myself and the first result is a post on YOUR Google+ account about the adwords keyword tool. Weird…
Jaron, that IS strange. I guess that Bing is doing some kind of personalization. Also a good hint at the power of Google+ in Bing listings. Will have to look into that and do some tests. Thanks a bunch for bringing that up!
Was JUST thinking about this last night and saw you tweet this again this morning. I googled myself to see the result and was mostly pleased, I binged myself and was outraged. I hope to explore it further in a tumble post soon but for the time being I’ll have to check out your optimize bing link.
And yes the 5% paycut is pretty brilliant at illustrating the point!!
Thanks a bunch for the comment, Aaron!
just stumbled across your website. do you make all your income of SEO and online marketing?
James, thanks for stopping by. Yes, I do. Why are you asking? Can I help in any way?
Good info, and very good point made by Tony (pastayoyo). With all of the emerging technology we can’t ignore anything, heck who needs sleep anyway ;)
Thanks for keeping us upto speed Alex!
Shannon, thank You for following my occasional posts. I’m glad I can help. Actually, comments keep me going :) so, please comment!
This reminds me…
I remember looking at some web analytics for a corporate site I developed a few years back. Only 5% of traffic came from Firefox browsers. I had implemented some code that didn’t work well in FF and didn’t really bother to fix it. Afterall, it’s only 5% of my audience right?
I shared that 5% logic with a developer friend who asked me “Would you be willing to take a 5% pay cut?” Lesson learned! I fixed the code.
Tony! What an amazing example! Thanks a bunch for sharing! Indeed 5% can mean a ton!
